Client: Association of Mental and Physical Awareness

Project Description: An illustration depicting the troubling representation of how we have become so chained to our phones that we sometimes feel subservient to them.

Audience: Society in general, those seeking to better their mental and physical health

Purpose/Objective: Help people gain awareness of the unhealthy relationship society has with their phones. Prompt them to change habits in order to live better, more fulfilled lives.

Illustration Chapter 2

 Many artistic movements have changed the publics perception of art such as fauvism, vubism, expressionism, and Dada. Some reasons for these movements are political and social upheaval or advances in technology.
When Illustrating one needs to be wary of over emphasis on technique, the message is everything. At the same time the arts technical ineptness shouldn't hinder the audience's appreciation of the work. Drawing is they keystone of the visual arts. There are many other tools and mediums to use.  drawing can be divided into two main categories: the sketch and the finished drawing. The sketch should be used to get ideas onto paper. The finished drawing should convey to the audience the artists knows their subject intimately
Observational drawing is drawing what is seen. This is used where the element of recording is necessary.
Imagined drawing is drawing something that can't be seen or recorded.
Printmaking includes a range of mechanical techniques that can reproduce and image multiple times (with some exceptions). Assemblage, or collage, is where the artist uses fragments of 'found' imagery and assembles them in a new way.
There are different traditions when it comes to depicting space. This includes vanishing points, birds eye views, and fixed viewpoint. Form, tone and light help depict read depth and atmosphere in paintings.
Composition includes format, the main elements, dominant elements, a golden section (most pleasing to the eye), symmetrical composition, asymmetrical composition, cropping, and color usage

Illustration Chapter 1

The Illustrators job is to create something out of nothing. Each illustrator has a unique artistic vision. Illustration is a form of Graphic Design. Graphic Design is the union between picture and word. Graphic Design branched off from other artists as a specialization. It can be seen on TV, book covers, and the internet.
Pictures and Words have strengths and weaknesses and points of similarity. When combined and working together they can endorse each others strengths and compensate for each others weaknesses.
There are processes to developing a Graphic Design Product.
1: Defining the problem
2: Gathering the relevant information
3: Generating options
4: Evaluating options
5: Selecting the best option
6: Implementing the chosen solution
7: Monitoring and evaluating the outcomes
Within the artistic process the answer to one problem is not the answer to another.

Illustration Project #1 - Turkey Ad,

 The town of Moroni has a feral cat problem. They are killing their turkeys from their turkey farms. A tabloid ad is needed to call the town to action.

My Illustration Style

Class Assignment 1

This is an illustration by Ted Geisel, also known as Dr. Seuss. This illustration was in the book The Lorax. It is a book about deforestation. The book is aimed at the youth of the future. It shows in vivid details the effects of deforestation. The images Dr. Seuss used is to shock the reader into understanding the point the book is trying to get across.

Dr. Seuss was artist who lived in the US and Paris around the time of the Surrealist Movement. He illustrated his own books, political comics, and paintings. Some of his illustrations showed up in the U.S. News under a Seuss Segment called The Birth of a Famous Feline (referring to The Cat in the Hat).

I chose this illustration because Dr. Seuss had the ability to make a striking image that emphasized what the book was trying to portray. His illustrations were so unique and had such a clear meaning that they became used as tools to teach children. I chose this one specifically because, through all the context of this book, it leads the reader to feel the horrible shock of the last tree being cut down. In subtle hints through the whole story you can see through his images that the story teller is ashamed for cutting down all the trees and Dr. Seuss shows that grief by hiding the storytellers entire being besides his arms through the whole book. Subtle clues like that are what makes even a small image like this an example of good illustrating technique.
